Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kathmandu in a Jeep, so please make sure to have breakfast before 7:00 am. The drive to Dhap takes approximately 7-8 hours and passes through scenic locations such as Bhaktapur, Dhulikhel, Mulkot, and Ghurmi. You will stop for lunch at Ghurmi and get to enjoy delicious Nepali food. The road narrows after Ghurmi, but it is in good condition until you reach Jantardhap where you will spend the night.
Jantardhap: is a small village located in the lower Solu Khumbu region, serving as the starting point for the Pikey Peak trek. At an altitude of 2,800m above sea level, this destination is perfect for those who are unable to trek to Pikey Peak but still want to see Mount Everest in all its glory. The village shares borders with Okhaldhunga and Solukhumbu district. During April, the hills surrounding Dhap are painted red by the beautiful Rhododendron flowers, while the winter brings a white blanket of snow. Additionally, for religious individuals, the nearby Changesthan Devi temple is a popular attraction among the local community.
As you begin your trek, you'll follow a beautiful walking trail that occasionally leads through the newly built road. The mesmerizing trail takes you through colorful rhododendron forests, and white sub-alpine flowers, and offers stunning views of the foothills of the world's highest mountain range. The valleys are characterized by steep slopes with terraced fields of potatoes and vegetables carved into the hillsides, providing a true glimpse into the Sherpa homeland. You can take your time and enjoy a relaxed 5-6 hours of walking on peaceful trails, fully immersing yourself in the natural surroundings.
Jhapre: is a charming village located in the Magar and Sherpa community, consisting of around 10-15 houses and tea houses. The village has an old monastery and two stupas where local people practice Buddhism in their daily lives. Sometimes there are puja ceremonies in the monastery, and you can join in if you wish. On a clear day, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Everest and Numbur Himal from Jhapre Village.
From Jhapre, you will ascend to a grassy ridge at Bhulbhule. At this location, there is a lodge with no name, but it offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountain peaks. The trail will soon split, and you'll need to turn right to continue towards Pikey Peak. During the trek, you'll pass some old yak huts and a long Mani Wall. After that, the path contours the side below Taklung Danda, and you'll walk through a stunning wooded trail. During the spring, you'll see many rhododendrons blooming along the way. Exiting the forest, you'll reach Pikey Peak base camp in about two hours, where you can find two normal Sherpa teahouses to spend the night.
Starting early in the morning, you'll take a gradual trail to the summit, which is adorned with colorful prayer flags. The views are breathtaking! If the weather is clear, you'll be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Himalayan range, stretching from Annapurna to Kanchenjunga. After enjoying the moment on the Pikey Peak summit, you will follow the trail through a spectacular old-growth forest to Taktor. There are several options for the descent to Junbesi, but the most likely route is a stunning shortcut trail that leaves the ridge shortly after Jase and descends steeply to Taktor. This path meets the Everest Base Camp trail coming from Jiri. From Taktor, it is a couple of hours on a lovely trail to reach the beautiful Sherpa village of Junbesi.
We heard that Pikey Peak was known to be the preferred vantage point of legendary mountaineer Edmund Hillary to catch a glimpse of Mount Everest. As I stood atop Pikey Peak and gazed at the stunning panoramic view of the majestic Himalayan range, I could not help but understand why Hillary was so enamored with this spot.

The village is home to two significant monasteries, Junbesi Monastery, and Ngagyur Sergon Lungrig Sedrup Zungdelling Monastery, which are decorated with colorful prayer flags and prayer wheels. It is also a popular stop for trekkers, offering modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, hot showers, and varied food menus while still retaining its natural beauty and cultural heritage.

The nuns' dedication to their spiritual path is evident in the peaceful atmosphere that permeates the entire area, making Thupten Choling a truly special place to visit.
