Tribhuvan International Airport serves as Nepal's sole international airport, where the Immigration Office, TIA (Tribhuvan International Airport) under the Department of Immigration, facilitates tourists with Visa on Arrival. The same provision is available at other entry and exit points along the border regions for foreign nationals entering Nepal by land.
The 'On Arrival' visa procedure is quick and straightforward, though queues may be expected during peak tourist seasons. Alternatively, if you wish to bypass queues, obtaining a visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions abroad before your arrival is also an option.
Visas obtained from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions are valid for entry within six months from the issued date, with the total stay duration counted from the entry date.
'On Arrival' visas are categorized as 'Tourist Visas' and offer multiple re-entry facilities. Even if your visit to Nepal serves purposes other than tourism, such as sightseeing, touring, mountaineering, trekking, or visiting friends and family, you must initially obtain a 'Tourist Visa' to enter the country. If necessary, you can later change the visa category based on your purpose and intended length of stay by submitting the required documents to the Department of Immigration.
Nationals of designated countries are advised to acquire visas from nearby Diplomatic missions before arrival. Check the eligibility link to confirm your suitability for an 'On Arrival' visa.
1st Step: Fill in the 'Arrival Card' and complete the online 'Tourist Visa' form (available on the official Department of Immigration website or using kiosk machines at the airport). Print the submission receipt with a barcode, which is valid for fifteen days.
2nd Step: Make the payment at the bank according to your visa requirement (15/30/90 Days) and obtain the receipt. While various payment modes are accepted, having some cash on hand is advisable.
Nationals of certain countries must obtain a visa from Diplomatic missions before arrival. On-arrival visas are not available for these nationals unless they have an official letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal.
3rd Step: Proceed to the Immigration Desk with your online form, payment receipts, and passport. Submit your documents to the immigration officer for visa processing, and upon satisfaction, the visa will be issued.
Gratis Visa is issued free of cost for the following categories of Visa applicants:
Contact the Department of Immigration for visa extensions or category changes, with tourist visa extensions possible at the Immigration Office, Pokhara, and non-tourist visa extensions done at the Department of Immigration (if eligible) for a maximum period of one year (except business visas).
