Your Shivapuri adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Kathmandu. Drive through the northern outskirts of the city toward Budhanilkantha.
7:45 AM – Visit Budhanilkantha Temple
After a scenic drive of around 45 minutes, arrive at the historic Budhanilkantha Temple. Take time to admire the impressive reclining statue of Lord Vishnu, resting peacefully on a bed of serpents.
8:30 AM – Drive to Muhan Pokhari
Continue by vehicle to Muhan Pokhari, the gateway to Shivapuri National Park. After completing the necessary entry formalities, prepare for your hike into the peaceful forest.
Into the Shivapuri Wilderness
8:45 AM – Begin the Hike
Start walking through the lush forest of Shivapuri National Park. The trail begins gently, surrounded by trees, birdsong, and refreshing mountain air.
As you gradually gain altitude, the trail becomes steeper, with sections of stone steps leading deeper into the forest. Along the way, enjoy occasional glimpses of the Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding hills.
Lunch with a View
12:30 PM – Packed Lunch
Take a well-earned break along the trail and enjoy a delicious packed lunch. Depending on the weather and trail conditions, you can relax while taking in the peaceful forest and mountain scenery.
Shivapuri Summit
1:30 PM – Continue to the Summit
After lunch, resume the climb toward Shivapuri Summit at 2,732 meters. The final section is more demanding, but the changing landscape and anticipation of reaching the summit make every step worthwhile.
2:30 PM – Reach Shivapuri Summit
Arrive at the summit and take in the magnificent Himalayan panorama. On a clear day, the views stretch across the surrounding mountain ranges, with peaks such as Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Annapurna, and Gaurishankar visible in the distance.
This is the perfect moment to pause, capture photographs, and simply enjoy the feeling of being above the Kathmandu Valley.
Descent and Return to Kathmandu
3:00 PM – Begin the Descent
After enjoying the summit views, begin your descent toward Muhan Pokhari. The familiar trail takes on a different character on the way down, offering new perspectives of the forest and surrounding landscape.
5:00 PM – Arrive at Muhan Pokhari
Complete the hike at Muhan Pokhari and meet your vehicle. Take a short rest before beginning the drive back to Kathmandu.
5:45 PM – Hotel Drop-Off
Arrive back at your hotel, bringing an inspiring day in the Shivapuri hills to a close—with fresh mountain air, Himalayan views, and unforgettable memories of your Kathmandu escape.
