Itinerary
Follow the Dudh Koshi River through forests and traditional villages before entering Sagarmatha National Park. Cross several suspension bridges and gradually climb toward Namche Bazaar, the vibrant gateway to the Everest region.
Take a well-deserved acclimatization day in Namche. A short hike to the Everest View Hotel offers spectacular views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and surrounding peaks. Explore the Sherpa town and allow your body to adjust to the increasing altitude.
The trail climbs gradually above the Dudh Koshi Valley with magnificent mountain views throughout the day. Continue through rhododendron and pine forests to Tengboche, home to the famous Tengboche Monastery and one of the region's most beautiful mountain panoramas.
Descend through the forest toward Deboche before crossing the Imja Khola. The trail then climbs gradually toward Dingboche, a beautiful high-altitude settlement surrounded by spectacular peaks including Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Island Peak.
Another important acclimatization day helps prepare you for the high passes ahead. Take a gradual hike toward Nagarjun Hill or Chhukung Valley for impressive views of the surrounding Himalayan giants before returning to Dingboche.
Leave Dingboche and follow the Imja Valley toward Chhukung. The landscape becomes increasingly rugged as you enter the high Himalayas, with dramatic views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Island Peak.
Today is one of the most challenging and rewarding days of the trek. Ascend toward Kongma La, the first of the three high passes, at approximately 5,535 m. After crossing the pass, descend across the rugged high-altitude landscape toward Lobuche.
Continue toward Gorakshep along the glacial landscape beneath towering peaks. After reaching Gorakshep, make the demanding climb to Kala Patthar for an unforgettable sunset over Everest, Nuptse, Pumori, and the surrounding Himalayan range.
Walk along the Khumbu Glacier toward Everest Base Camp, one of the defining moments of the journey. Explore the legendary base camp and surrounding glacial landscape before retracing the trail back to Lobuche for the night.
Leave the main Everest Base Camp trail and head toward Dzongla. The route passes through dramatic alpine terrain beneath the towering faces of Cholatse and Taboche, with increasingly spectacular views as you approach this remote mountain settlement.
Begin early for the second major challenge of the trek: Cho La Pass at approximately 5,420 m. The crossing involves steep and rugged terrain but rewards you with magnificent Himalayan scenery. Descend toward the peaceful settlement of Thangnak beside the Ngozumpa Glacier.
Continue across the spectacular high-altitude landscape toward Gokyo. Walk beside the Ngozumpa Glacier and turquoise glacial lakes before reaching Gokyo, beautifully situated beside the third Gokyo Lake with Cho Oyu and surrounding peaks towering above.
The third and final high pass awaits. Climb steadily toward Renjo La at approximately 5,360 m, where an extraordinary panorama unfolds across Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the surrounding mountains. Descend toward the remote village of Lungden.
Descend gradually through the beautiful Bhote Koshi Valley toward Thame, one of the most historic Sherpa villages in the Everest region. The quieter surroundings offer a wonderful opportunity to experience traditional Himalayan culture away from the main trekking route.
Continue along the valley and gradually descend toward Namche Bazaar. After completing the three high passes, enjoy the easier trail and take time to relax, celebrate, and experience the lively atmosphere of Namche.
The final trekking day follows the Dudh Koshi River through familiar villages, forests, and suspension bridges. Continue to Lukla, where you celebrate the completion of your challenging and unforgettable Everest Three High Pass adventure.
Take a short morning flight from Lukla to Manthali. From Manthali, enjoy a scenic drive through the hills back to Kathmandu. Arrive at your hotel and conclude your extraordinary journey through the Everest Himalayas.

What the route feels like
The Everest High Pass Trek is one of the most rewarding and adventurous journeys in the Himalayas, designed for trekkers who want to experience the Everest region beyond the classic trail to Base Camp. Crossing the three legendary high passes—Kongma La (5,540 m), Cho La (5,420 m), and Renjo La (5,360 m)—this demanding but unforgettable route connects the remote valleys, glaciers, turquoise lakes, and traditional Sherpa villages that lie beneath some of the world's highest mountains.
This is more than a trek to a destination. It is a journey through the heart of the Everest region, where every pass brings a new perspective and every valley tells a different story. From the dramatic landscapes around Kongma La and the icy terrain of Cho La to the peaceful turquoise waters of the Gokyo Lakes and the panoramic views from Renjo La, the trek reveals a side of the Himalayas that many visitors never see.
Along the trail, you will stand beneath some of the world's most magnificent peaks, including Mount Everest (8,848.86 m), Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, and Nuptse. You will walk beside ancient glaciers, cross rugged mountain passes, follow the Dudh Koshi River, and explore the spectacular Gokyo Valley. The landscape changes constantly—from rhododendron and pine forests at lower elevations to barren alpine valleys and glacial terrain at higher altitudes.
But the mountains are only part of the story.
The Everest High Pass Trek also takes you deep into the homeland of the Sherpa people. Villages such as Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Thame, Dingboche, Chhukung, Thangnak, Gokyo, and other mountain settlements offer opportunities to experience the traditions, hospitality, Buddhist culture, and everyday life of communities that have lived among these mountains for generations. Monasteries, prayer flags, mani walls, chortens, and stone-built homes become familiar companions along the journey.
Starting with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, the adventure follows mountain trails through Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The route gradually climbs through the Dudh Koshi Valley toward Namche Bazaar before entering the higher valleys of the Everest region. With carefully planned acclimatization days, the trek allows your body time to adapt before tackling the three high passes.
The reward is not simply reaching the other side of each pass. It is the feeling of standing high above the valleys, surrounded by an immense Himalayan panorama, knowing that you have crossed terrain that once seemed impossible.
For experienced and physically prepared trekkers, the Everest Three High Passes Trek offers a deeper, more adventurous way to experience Everest—one that combines challenge, natural beauty, Sherpa culture, and the quiet satisfaction of discovering places beyond the ordinary trail.
